Trains on stamps are my favorite collecting area, so although these pages are not formally a part of my philatelic alphabet, I am including them so I can share some of my favorite stamps and covers. Below are thumbnail images of all the U.S. postage stamps and postal stationery with a train or rail theme, as listed in Norm Wright, Sr.'s ATA Handbook 138, World Railways Philatelic (to which I am indebted for much of the technical data quoted here), plus a few others I felt belonged. The stamps are arranged by type (Locals and Expresses, US postage stamps, then Parcel Post, Revenues, and postal stationery). 11/16/2004 - A viewer pointed out that I was not showing here the stamps with streetcars or trolleys, and though I do not collect those, they are listed in the ATA Handbook, so I have added spaces for them in the table below, and will add images and text as I acquire them. I have also added other items I had simply put off including, such as postal cards. I am still NOT including here stamps such as Scott 628, the John Ericsson commemorative, whose rail connection is that its subject designed the steam locomotive "Novelty" in 1869.
